Guide To Smart Homes - Part 1
What Exactly Is A Smart Home?
Are You Confused With ‘Smart Home’ & Exactly What It Is?
Is a Smart Home:
A Heating Thermostat that you control from your phone?
A Single Remote to control your TV & Audio Visual Equipment?
Cinema or Media Rooms.
A ‘Mood’ Lighting System where you can control multiple lights and their levels from one button, your Smart Phone or Timed Events?
A CCTV System you can view from anywhere in the world?
A Security Alarm System?
Good WiFi Coverage & IT Network?
Video Door Access?
Shade/ Blind Control?
It is any combination of the above, but ONLY when tied together with a ‘Control System’.
What is a Control System I hear you ask?
A ‘Control System’ such as ‘RTI’ or ‘Control4’, is a central computer system that ties all of the above ‘Sub-Systems’ (Audio, Video, Lighting, Heating, CCTCV etc) together so they can interact with each other to provide added benefit such as ‘Lights On when Security Alarm Sounds’ or ‘Turn Everything Off When Security Alarm Is Armed’. You need a Control System to have Smart Home.
A Control System also gives one Graphical User Interface (GUI) typically on dedicated Touch Screens, Tablets or Smart Phones, to control all of the different systems very easily along with much enhanced functionality.
A good example of this enhanced functionality would be the ‘All Off’ button at the front door keypad, when pressed the Security Alarm is armed, all Lighting & Audio Visual Equipment is switched off, Blinds go down and the Heating is turned off, saving time, improving security and saving energy.
This functionality and ease of use is key to what a professional Smart Home System accomplishes.
